Patient Sedated
IV sedation is administered. You will remain asleep and comfortable throughout.
Localization of Tumor
The EUS scope is placed in the stomach/duodenum. The ultrasound probe visualizes the target mass and surrounding blood vessels.
Needle Pass (Biopsy)
Under real-time ultrasound, a microscopic biopsy needle is guided through the scope channel directly into the mass, avoiding blood vessels.
Tissue Verification
Cells (FNA) or core tissue (FNB) are retrieved. A cytotechnologist may verify the sample adequacy immediately under a microscope.
